Effective collaboration is not an accident. While personalities and opinions can disrupt teamwork, many challenges can actually be avoided, and strong working relationships built, by monitoring and managing the factors essential to any productive team effort. Pivotal Resources' Vital Signs workshop teaches how to establish an environment that encourages strong teamwork, and to stay alert to indicators that need attention from a leader or member.
Vital Signs gives participants a set of tools to assess and strengthen teamwork in a variety of contexts, including intact work groups, leadership teams, cross-functional initiatives an focused problem solving efforts. The workshop can be tailored to focus on specific teamwork situations and/or challenges or can be applied to help recognize opportunities and diagnose problems as they arise.
Objectives
The Vital Signs are fundamental indicators of the health of any situation when teamwork is essential. Like pulse, temperature and blood pressure, they provide a quick and accurate sense of where challenges may arise, or that the spirit of teamwork is strong. At the conclusion of the workshop participants are able to:
- Recognize the five Vital Signs of teamwork - Goals, Roles, Procedures, Relationships and Leadership
- Assess the strength or weakness of each key factor and apply preventive/proactive practices to build healthy collaboration
- Diagnose issues that hamper teamwork and apply appropriate treatment to restore a cooperative and productive environment
- Apply common sense techniques for better collaboration in both daily work and on project teams
- Help others recognize the elements of solid teamwork, so the goal of working together well can be a shared responsibility
