Blended Learning Solutions Example

To illustrate our blended learning services, we can use the example of a “Green Belt” program conducted for a US-based manufacturing client.  This initiative also included Champions training for executives and plant leaders, as well as consulting support on project selection.  The first group (or “cohort”) of Green Belt candidates included 20 participants, each with an individual project.  (Blended solutions can work equally well with team-based projects as well.)

Learning objectives for this program were designed to match those of Pivotal’s “standard” Green Belt criterion with the goal of both project completion/results and participant certification.  E-learning modules were a key element of the program.  The entire program spanned 10 weeks, after which participants completed a review session and took Pivotal’s Green Belt examination.  The first-time passing rate for the exam was similar to groups in our classroom training; all passed the exam upon retesting.

The breakdown of the components is as follows:

Note that the weekly average time commitment to the program of just over five hours (usually less, since a large portion of those hours are dedicated during the on-site session).  The blended approach therefore allows plenty of time for candidates to work on their projects, and continue “regular” job responsibilities as well!

For the Virtual Coaching sessions, each participant works with a single Pivotal consultant through the course of the program.  (Coaching would be provided to project teams if not every participant was assigned a project).  The consultant reviews documentation provided by the candidate prior to each session on his or her project and outlines a plan and focus for each session.  Action items and areas for further learning are outcomes of the Coaching meetings.
