He has provided senior executive training and deployment consulting services for such companies as GE Capital, Cisco Systems, Starwood Hotels, Carlson Wagonlit Travel, Adobe, Givaudan, and many others.

Pete spent his early career in broadcasting and marketing before entering the management consulting and training field in the mid-1980s. He gained experience quickly, helping improve decision making and problem solving processes at large organizations in various industries including financial services, petrochemical, high tech, consumer products and health care. Pete formed Pivotal Resources in 1993 with the mission of helping clients build lasting success through practical and creative skills and streamlined processes. He is author of the Change Leadership book, The Six Sigma Leader and has co-authored several other popular books including What is Six Sigma? and The Six Sigma Way — which was named one of the most influential business books of the past 20 years by Forbes magazine, translated into 16 languages, and recently updated to a Second Edition. He has also written articles for such publications as CEO Magazine, Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, and leadership issues at Forbes.com. He holds an MBA from National University in San Diego and degrees in English and History from the University of California.

Cheralynn Abbott

Cheralynn is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations for Pivotal Resources in the U.S. and abroad.  She has extensive experience in planning and coordinating organization-wide business change efforts with such firms as adidas, Cisco Systems, BP, Starwood Hotels, Target, Oregon Department of Transportation, among many others.

Cheralynn has been involved in business process improvement throughout her career. In her first position, with a drug testing laboratory, she was responsible for assessing operational performance along with developing and implementing more efficient procedures. She then spent 5 years in the software industry with a firm that specialized in applications for the printing industry. It is there that she became more involved with training, developing curriculum and facilitating workshops. In addition, she served as Product Manager for new software projects. Leveraging her previous process and training experience, she led a team of engineers in designing user interfaces, creating product documentation and developing training programs. She was promoted rapidly—eventually becoming senior manager of consulting services and spent significant time developing marketing plans, new product strategies and creating strategic alliances in North America, Europe and Asia. Cheralynn joined Pivotal Resources in 2000 to lead marketing efforts. Again, her responsibilities quickly expanded to encompass product development, talent management and operations. With our clients, she works directly to help define change goals and plan implementation of Pivotal’s diverse solutions. One of her greatest strengths is in advising organizations on how to outline realistic objectives that yield short-term results while building long-term capability. Many of the projects she has led have expanded into strong, multi-year initiatives with significant client results. Cheralynn’s operational responsibilities today include finance, coordination of international offices and partners, and resourcing of consulting services for major client engagements.

Balaji’s professional journey started in 1995 in India. His international career began in 2002 at medical technology company Beckton Dickinson, where he managed supply chain process improvement as Manager – Operations Effectiveness for the Asia Pacific Supply Chain organization. He then worked as a consultant for McKinsey & Company, based in Singapore, working to drive sustainable operations improvement across a wide range of industries in Asia, before beginning his 12-year career with Givaudan, a Switzerland-based global market leader in the Fragrance and Flavors industry with revenues of $6.2 B. Joining the Givaudan team in 2008 as a Senior Project Manager, Balaji was promoted to Head of Operations for Asia Pacific Flavors and then Vice President of Operations for North America Flavors.   • Designed the North America Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) cycle to align with the organization structure creating greater collaboration and transparency around demand and supply, leading to 5% Service level improvement.
  • Consolidated the North American manufacturing footprint (post acquisition) from 8 to 5 locations resulting in a 3% margin improvement.
  • Led a global manufacturing footprint design strategy that will simplify the network from 49 to 38 plants
  • Directed Continuous Improvement team of experts improved service levels by 5% and reduced annual inventory write-offs by $3M.

Balaji holds an MBA from INSEAD Fontainbleau, France, a Master of Technology degree in Fiber/Polymer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology (Delhi), and a Bachelor of Science degree in Textile Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology, (Delhi).

Brittany began her career in K-12 schools Program Evaluation, designing, leading, and reporting on assessment of innovative programs, outlining successes and opportunities to grant funders. After earning a research-focused Master’s degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, she worked as a business development professional then an Associate Director of Development for Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU), a leading academic medical center. At OHSU, she engaged a variety of stakeholders to capture, document, and market organizational assets. She managed multi-million-dollar philanthropic partnerships and raised $16.5 million for research, clinical, and academic health programs.

She began her continuous improvement career in 2018 by serving as a Community Consultant for Lean Portland, a non-profit consulting and educational organization. This work gave her insights into the importance of combining interpersonal and analytical skills to business change—and further strengthened her ability to help clients set and achieve goals for improvement.

Brittany’s broad experience, analytical mindset, relationship management experience, and continuous improvement skills contribute to her ability to assess organizational needs, increase effectiveness and build management and staff engagement.

Brittany holds a B.A. in Psychology from Whitman College and an M.S. in Applied Social Psychology (Industrial/Organizational) from Portland State University.  She is a Certified Scrum Master and holds a certificate in Lean process/continuous improvement from Portland State University.
